congenital external carotid-external jugular arteriovenous fistula: diagnosis with contrast-enhanced computed tomography

چکیده
the possibility of abnormal avf was considered and it was confirmed on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (ct), inferring that this modality is not only fast and non-invasive, but also accurate in detecting vascular abnormalities. herein, we report a 42-year-old woman with congenital avf between the external carotid artery and external jugular vein, presenting with palpitation and dyspnea. the patient was suffering from mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. on physical examination, a thrill on the left side of the neck and an audible bruit over the left mandibular angle were detected. arteriovenous fistula (avf) between the external carotid artery and external jugular vein is extremely rare, with only few cases reported in the literature so far. most of these avfs have been either iatrogenic or secondary to previous trauma.

Congenital arteriovenous communications involving the external carotid artery and jugular veins are rare. We report a 4-year-old girl with a history of an abnormal audible sound in the right ear during sleep. Physical examination revealed a carotid bruit, thrill and a pulsatile mass in the right neck. A simple congenital right external carotid-jugular arteriovenous fistula was confirmed and suc...

A 27-year-old man with congenital external carotid-jugular arteriovenous fistula presented with a diminished level of consciousness and an ataxic gait. Axial fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (FLAIR) MR imaging revealed venous congestion, a dilated right jugular vein, and an area of high signal intensity in the brain stem and cerebellum. Angiography showed a dilated right external carotid art...
متن کاملExternal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm with arteriovenous fistula: A rare complication of glass shrapnel injury
Posttraumatic external carotid artery pseudoaneurysm with arteriovenous fistula is a rare condition. An 8-year-old child presented with painful pulsatile swelling in the preauricular region following a penetrating glass shrapnel injury. Detailed evaluation showed distal external carotid artery pseudoaneurysm with fistula, which was draining into the retromandibular vein. Endovascular treatment ...
متن کاملComputed tomography of carotid-cavernous fistula.
Fourteen patients with angiographically-proven carotid-cavernous fistulas were evaluated by computed tomography (CT). Unilateral or bilateral exophthalmos was noted in 12 patients. Slight blurring of the margin of the globe was present in two, presumably due to pulsations of the globe or conjunctival edema. Superior ophthalmic veins were prominent in 12 patients and were often larger on the sid...
